Vist to Antwerp

Tuesday July 1st 2008

As part of Ted Morse's events programme for NAMIR a visit has been arranged to Decap, a firm in Antwerp (Belgium) that makes and repairs large mechanical organs. Members who attended the AGM at the St Albans Organ Theatre will remember the large organs there operated by cardboard roll.

The visit will take place on the morning of Tuesday July 1st which will mean that we travel to Antwerp on Monday June 30th and return home during the evening of July 1st after the visit - although of course members may extend their stay if they wish.

Those in the South East can travel by the 1pm Eurostar from St Pancras on June 30th and with a change in Brussels arrive in Antwerp by 5.30pm. Travel back would bring us to St Pancras by 8pm on July 1st. Anyone nearer the Kent coast could consider driving but those further away should consider flying to Brussels. One night in a hotel will be required in Antwerp.

When we know numbers wishing to attend, we can arrange or recommend travel and hotel bookings.

The visit will be restricted in numbers - would anyone who may be interested in attending contact Ted Morse on 01491 651509 or email ewmorse@clara.co.uk.

2007 AGM

The 2007 AGM was held on Sunday October 28th at the Yamaha building in Milton Keynes and was attended by over 30 members.  The business meeting took place in the morning at which the Chairman and other officers gave their reports.  The Treasurer (Diana Lawson) said that there had been a surplus of just over £1500 during the 2006/7 financial year and that subscription income had increased by £328 compared with the previous year.  The new committee are shown on the Members Area page on this website.  The main change is that Alex Preston has joined the Committee to become Website coordinator and David Hinton is now an Ordinary Committee member.  Philip Bridle stood down from the committee.

After lunch, Yamaha staff Stephen Adcock and Charles Bozon gave us a description of the Yamaha Technicians Guild and showed us the Manuals developed for the Courses. These one and two day courses so far have been directed towards instrument repair technicians associated with the larger dealers but they may become available to others in the future. Yamaha said that it may be possible to provide NAMIR members with more information on spares.

Yamaha made us very welcome and were thanked by the Chairman for hosting our meeting.
